In a move that has divided opinions, Blaby District Council’s planning committee has approved plans to build 154 homes on a 12.5-acre (five-hectare) plot of farmland just south of Huncote. The decision, made during a Thursday meeting, comes despite strong opposition from Huncote Parish Council, which raised alarms about the potential dangers to children playing near the site due to increased traffic.
And this is the part most people miss: While the Parish Council’s concerns are valid, the district council’s planning officers deemed the scheme, proposed by Jelson Homes, as acceptable. They argued that the development, located near Ratcliffe Drive, Peers Way, and Preston Way, includes thoughtful additions like green spaces, orchards, tree planting, a central square, and meadow grassland.
