Malaysia's Leadership in ASEAN: A Time of Global Change

Malaysia's Confidence in ASEAN Leadership

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 (Bernama) -- Malaysia, as the Chair of ASEAN 2025, has demonstrated unwavering confidence in leading the regional bloc through a period of global change, according to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. In a Facebook post on Sunday, he highlighted Malaysia's commitment to revitalizing dialogue and fostering unity, emphasizing the ASEAN spirit's vibrancy, guided by wisdom, reason, and a shared sense of purpose.

Anwar noted that the 47th ASEAN Summit in Kuala Lumpur marked a historic turning point, with significant milestones achieved, such as the KL Peace Accord between Cambodia and Thailand, and the signing of the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area 3.0. He also shared a video highlighting the summit's key moments, showcasing the true strength of ASEAN in the loyalty, inclusivity, and mutual trust among its member states.

A Journey of Hope and Justice

As the chairmanship is handed over to the Philippines, Anwar reflected on Malaysia's journey with gratitude, acknowledging that not all deadlocks have been resolved, but every bold step has contributed to shaping history towards hope and justice. He expressed his appreciation to Malaysians for their patience and hospitality towards regional partners throughout this year, stating, "The world has witnessed it, this is the real Malaysia!"

The 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, which concluded on Oct 28 after three days, also recorded several key achievements, including the formal admission of Timor-Leste as ASEAN's 11th member state. This summit not only celebrated ASEAN's progress but also highlighted the organization's ability to adapt and evolve in a rapidly changing global landscape.
