Philips is doubling down on AI-driven healthcare innovation in China, showcasing its latest health solutions at the 8th China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai. With a focus on precision diagnosis, intelligent imaging, and personal health, the company is leveraging its cutting-edge multi-nuclear MRI system and AI-powered consumer products like electric toothbrushes and shavers. This move comes as China rapidly evolves its digital health landscape, with over 400 large AI models and more than 100 licensed medical AI products already developed.
According to Liu Ling, chief region leader of Philips Greater China, AI is becoming a key force in addressing medical system challenges, with strong innovation momentum in China. The firm's AI solutions are already making an impact, from smart magnetic resonance imaging to AI-assisted diagnosis in hospitals and intelligent health management tools for consumers.
The Chinese AI healthcare market is projected to surge from 8.8 billion yuan (about 1.2 billion U.S. dollars) in 2023 to 315.7 billion yuan by 2033, representing a compound annual growth rate of 43.1 percent, according to market research firm Frost & Sullivan. This growth is fueled by advancements in digital infrastructure and supportive government policies, including the nationwide 'AI Plus' initiative, which aims to enhance primary healthcare services.
Philips has collaborated with hospitals to implement its magnetic resonance acceleration technology, which triples scanning speed, reducing clinician workload and improving the medical experience. This cross-disciplinary cooperation has boosted the synergy of the medical ecosystem. Additionally, the Philips Suzhou Innovation Center has developed a 1.5-tesla MRI machine that operates without liquid helium, making it more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.
Beyond the domestic market, these domestically developed solutions are exported to other global markets. Liu emphasizes that China is not only Philips' second-largest market but also an indispensable part of its global strategy. The company's commitment to clinical practice and local health needs is evident in its 40-year engagement with the Chinese market.
