Ryan Reynolds is reportedly diving into a remake of the classic 1974 action-comedy Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, originally starring the legendary Clint Eastwood and Jeff Bridges. This news, breaking just 45 minutes ago, has sent ripples through Hollywood, and for good reason!
Reynolds isn't just producing this project through his Maximum Effort banner; he's also eyeing a starring role. He's teamed up with Enzo Mileti and Scott Wilson to craft the script, and Deadwood & Wolverine editor Shane Reid is set to make his directorial debut. Interestingly, the original Thunderbolt and Lightfoot was also a directorial debut, marking Michael Cimino's first foray into filmmaking before he went on to win an Academy Award for Best Director just four years later for The Deer Hunter.
For those unfamiliar with the original, here's a quick rundown: The story follows free-spirited drifter Lightfoot (played by Jeff Bridges in the original) who crosses paths with the seasoned thief Thunderbolt (Clint Eastwood). Thunderbolt is on the run from his former partners, Red and Eddie, who believe he double-crossed them during a bank heist years prior. After clearing his name, Lightfoot convinces Thunderbolt and his old partners to team up for one last score: robbing the same Montana bank vault all over again!
But here's where it gets controversial... The report suggests a potential reunion between Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the remake. The thought of these two comedic powerhouses sharing the screen again is certainly intriguing.
In other news, Reynolds is also slated to star in and produce a live-action adaptation of Eloise for Netflix. Based on the beloved children's book series, Mae Schenk will play the titular character, with Reynolds taking on a new, original villain role. Amy Sherman-Palladino is directing the project.
And this is the part most people miss... There are strong rumors that Reynolds will reprise his role as Deadpool in either Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars.
