The 31st Sindh Women’s Swimming Championship witnessed a record-breaking turnout, with 377 participants from 20 institutions across Karachi. The event, held over two days, showcased the talent and determination of young swimmers, with the Karachi Grammar School (KGS) emerging as the top performer. KGS retained the championship title, with a record number of swimmers participating. The highlight of the event was the performance of Hareem Malik, who claimed the double group championship title for the third consecutive year. She secured eight gold medals and set five new records, the most by any swimmer at the meet. However, the event also revealed a concerning trend: the absence of longer and more strenuous races from the event list due to a lack of participants. This is a significant change from previous years, where such races were a regular feature. The championship also featured standout performances from other swimmers, including 12-year-old Zoya Omair Hafiz, who retained her U12 group champion title with three golds and as many records. The event was not just about swimming; it was also a platform for mothers to showcase their pride and support for their daughters. Several mothers beamed with pride as they watched their daughters give interviews to various TV channels in between taking photos with their teammates and coaches. Chief guest Nimrah Khan, an actress and former athlete, delivered an inspiring speech, emphasizing the importance of parental support and breaking societal barriers for women athletes. The championship results saw KGS emerge as the top performer with 533 points, followed by CAS with 176.5 pts, Karachi Club with 129 pts, Haque Academy with 110.5 pts, Bayview Academy with 109 pts, Beaconhouse Defence Campus with 24 pts, and Khi United Swim Association and DHA Sports Club (Moin Khan) with 2 pts each. Group champions were declared in various age categories, with Aanya Salahuddin winning the 8 and under category, Ranya Chapal winning the 10 and under category, Zoya Omair Hafiz winning the 12 and under category, Fariah Imran and Zara Farhan Ilyas sharing the 14 and under category, Hareem Malik winning the 16 and under category, and Hareem Malik also claiming the Open Age title.
