Sydney's iconic Harbour Bridge now boasts a new, smooth bike ramp, replacing a notorious 55-step staircase. This upgrade, which opened to the public on Tuesday, marks a significant milestone for cyclists, offering a continuous route from North Sydney into the CBD. The rare enhancement to the city's world-famous bridge will accommodate heavy e-bikes, bikes with trailers, and older riders, thanks to its smooth ramp design. Tony Stanley, a local resident, expressed his joy as he crossed the bridge with his family for the first time, including his daughter on her own two-wheeler. The new ramp, which cost $39 million to build, is expected to attract more traffic and enhance the cycling experience for all. Stuart Lobb, a local resident, praised the smooth flow of the new ramp, describing it as the best way to commute to work. The ramp rises from Bradfield Park in Milsons Point to the dedicated bike path on the bridge's west side, offering commuters a scenic view of the Parramatta River, Luna Park, and the Rocks district. The path joins a growing network of recent cycleway improvements around Sydney, providing a nearly continuous bike path from North Sydney through the CBD, across the Anzac Bridge, and down to the Cooks River. Cyclists can also access Brighton-le-Sands and Olympic Park, with a path along Oxford Street set to extend to Bondi Junction. The opening of the new ramp has sparked hope for further cycleway developments, as Jullietta Jung, a former transport department manager and president of the Better Streets advocacy group, noted the increasing momentum for cycling infrastructure in the city.
