The Clause: From School Band to 'Dream' Arena
The three members of The Clause, who met as 12-year-olds in the West Midlands, are set to play their 'dream' venue as they celebrate the success of their debut album. Their single 'Victim Of A Casual Thing' hit the 8th spot in the official UK album charts, surpassing stars like Sabrina Carpenter and Elton John. It's now in the 19th position and topping the Independent Albums Chart.
Guitarist Liam Deakin, 26, described the past few days as a blur as the album's success sank in. Frontman Pearce Macca, also 26, added that the album tour includes notable venues, but they are particularly excited to headline Birmingham's O2 Academy, which was an early ambition.
Macca noted that the tour, starting in Brighton on November 13, is the band's biggest so far. He said, 'We are playing some venues we never thought we'd play up and down the country. The main one being the Academy in Birmingham.' When the band started over a decade ago, it was a joke that they'd headline there one day.
On December 19, their dream will come true, at the end of their debut album tour, which came earlier than expected. Macca explained how he met Niall Fennell, the drummer, and Jonny Fyffe, the bassist, at St Peter's Catholic School in Solihull. They were 12-year-old strangers who met for lunch.
They met Deakin when they were 15 or 16 at a Jaws gig. Deakin joined the band, and they've been making music for a couple of years, gradually gaining traction. Macca said, 'We're lucky to have a great fan base. We don't have a label or big management; it's four lads who've thrown their lives into it.'
The Clause has had sold-out tours and supported acts like James, The Lottery Winners, and The K's. They've also played at major events like the Isle of Wight Festival and Radio One's Big Weekend. Deakin described their recent success as 'wild', saying they didn't expect to be so high on the charts.
The O2 Academy gig will be a significant night for the band and its fans, according to Deakin.
